Safety Switches with RFID and Electromagnetic Security from SICK

What are Safety Switches?

Safety switches are indispensable in many industrial processing applications where safety is essential for the protection of both personnel and machinery. They are ideal for protecting and monitoring the movable physical guards, doors and access panels found on machines and production lines.

Why use Magnetic Safety Switches?

Magnetic safety switches are one solution to monitoring safety guards, with low-wear and low-maintenance. With extended service lives magnetic safety switches are also resistant to shock and vibrations and offer a high level of protection against manipulation.

Dependable, magnetic safety locking switches provide very high reliability for door monitoring and use a strong electromagnet to ensure that the safety guard is closed and the production process runs smoothly.

With the incorporation of RFID transponder technology, different coding levels can be achieved – with universal coding all actuators are accepted; with unique and permanent coding only the previously taught-in actuator is accepted.

SICK is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of sensors and sensor solutions for industrial automation applications. Here we take a quick look at their MLP1 Magnetic Locking Safety Switches, their advantages and applications.

SICK MLP1 Safety Switches with RFID and Electromagnetic Security

The SICK MLP1 safety switches main feature is  magnetic locking, specifically designed for industrial applications that require process protection and a safety function. These safety switches also feature an RFID transponder that acknowledges and monitors the semiconductor outputs, providing maximum safety for door and guard monitoring. The electromagnet ensures that the safety door stays closed and the production process is not interrupted.

The combination of these two low-wear technologies provides high door offset tolerance, increased safety and increased machine availability. The innovative mounting concept and flat actuators of the MLP1 facilitates easy integration into your installation.

MLP1 Safety Switch Features

  • Actuators with low or high coding level

Optimal Process Protection

The MLP1’s strong electromagnet prevents interference in running processes, ensuring that the safety gate remains closed and the production process can function as planned. Further benefits come with the high level of manipulation protection provided by the RFID transponder safety switch, variants with unique coding only accept the previously taught-in actuator.

The high locking force of the electromagnet ensures that the protective door cannot be opened accidently. These safety switches have an offset tolerance of ± 5 mm and, thanks to the transponder technology and electromagnet, provide a reliable door locking function even if the door is not closed correctly.

Flexible Mounting, Easy Integration

It’s simple to integrate the MLP1 into your installation, being easily and quickly mounted and barely visible. Thanks to its rugged metal housing and IP67 enclosure these safety switches can withstand harsh ambient conditions providing a long service life. They also feature various connection options and performance level (PL) e.
